Regional Housing Strategy

Regional Housing StrategyChampioning an increase in new affordable homes in the South East over the next three years (2008-2011) is a top priority for the RHB.

This is the first housing strategy produced by the RHB since it transferred to Regional Assembly chairmanship in 2006. The RHB has ensured there is a stronger alignment of funding priorities with the South East Plan and Regional Economic Strategy.

The Regional Housing Strategy for 2008-11, published by the RHB in April 2008, sets out how more than 80% of its £1.37 billion funding will help:

  • Make sure 35% of all new homes are affordable, either for rent or for part-rent/part-buy
  • Make sure new affordable homes come in a range of sizes, to suit families as well as couples and singles
  • Continued funding for local authority housing stock to meet the decent home standard
  • Make sure that new affordable homes meet high standards of building and energy efficiency.

The RHB will also invest in refurbishing rundown private sector housing, affordable homes in rural areas and accommodation for Gypsies and Travellers.
