The Sustainable Futures Group (SFG) is an independent body that champions the delivery of sustainable development within the South East region.

The SFG is responsible for:

• Appraising South East England's performance
• Targeting key sustainable development priorities within the South East region and commending them to the regional bodies
• Acting as an advocate and champion for sustainability throughout South East England
• Tackling key obstacles and barriers to sustainable development.

Members of SFG are selected for their technical expertise and include representatives from GOSE, SEEDA and the Regional Assembly, as well as stakeholders including environmental and voluntary groups, the health and business sector and a local authority representative. The group is chaired by Ian Christie, a high profile independent researcher, consultant and lecturer on sustainable development.

The SFG has committed to using information within the Regional Sustainability Framework to identify a set of sustainable development priorities which can be more easily communicated to the South East region.
