The Regional Assembly has a key role in advising Government on significant transport issues in South East England. It is responsible for the Regional Transport Strategy (RTS), which ensures transport projects in the region complement and support sustainable development. The RTS forms part of the South East Plan, the Assembly's 20-year planning vision. Regional Transport Board
Current WorkRegional Transport PrioritiesThe RTB is reviewing the region's Government approved transport priorities to 2016 and submitting further transport advice for 2016-18. This is an opportunity for transport authorities to review their projects and propose new ones. The Assembly, on behalf of the RTB, is sending a questionnaire to local authorities requesting updated information. The review is expected to be submitted to Government in summer 2008. Transport Fact BookIn October 2007, the Regional Assembly published, on behalf of the Regional Transport Board, a practical fact book covering details of the region's 10-year transport programme and an overview of vital improvements and investment. Ongoing WorkAir - Recent work includes a report on the impact of the Future of Air Transport white paper on the South East region, and the South East and East of England Regional Air Service Study (SERAS). Roads -Includes work on the Bus and Coach summit, road user charging and parking standards. Sea - A response to Government's Sea Ports Study. Rail - A report providing a spatial analysis of ticket sales has recently been updated to include data to/from London and key destinations outside of the region. Multi-Modal Studies in Transport - An important part of the Government's Ten Year Plan, announced in July 2000, is Multi-Modal transport studies. Regional Transport Priorities - Information on how we prioritise the region's transport projects and details of the region's transport programme. Mobility Management - The Regional Assembly commissioned a study on how to change travel behaviour helping to achieve the aims of the South East Plan, including making better use of public transport and reducing car journeys.
